A free drive in BeamNG.drive starts by choosing a vehicle and the conditions of the experiment. A light buggy climbs a rocky slope, a truck tows a trailer over a broken road, and a sports car tests its grip on a circuit. Wind speed, gravity and obstacles placed around the map change the challenge.

The driving simulator remains in Early Access, offering a sandbox with separate, spacious maps. Drivers explore paved roads, test suspension on dirt and compare different classes of vehicle. Soft-body physics account for weight distribution and connections between components, so the configuration affects acceleration, braking and handling.

Game Features

Many decisions in BeamNG.drive are made before you pull away: which vehicle to take, how to build it and what conditions to drive in.

A vehicle for the job. Garage options range from a sports coupe and pickups to a limousine, an armored truck and a wheel loader. Mass and dimensions immediately change acceleration, braking and cornering.
Build before you drive. Tuning adjusts tires, suspension and the drivetrain for asphalt, sand or dirt. Good setups are saved as separate configurations to come back to later.
Marble quarry in Italy. Built for haul trucks and loaders, the quarry on the Italy map has its own missions, from hauling marble to racing work trucks.
Starting a career. A new profile can begin with introductory onboarding or go straight into the open world. Career is still an Early Preview, and its rules and tasks change from update to update.
Traffic on the roads. AI traffic can be switched on mid-drive, and police cars turn up in it. With traffic, a familiar interchange becomes a test of reflexes, especially since the AI is not perfect yet.
Mods and Automation. The mod repository opens straight from the game menu, and Automation owners can bring their own cars into BeamNG.drive. Major updates switch mods off automatically, and you turn them back on yourself.

BeamNG.drive is still in Early Access, and major updates change it noticeably: in summer 2026 the developers reworked shadows, lighting and Photo Mode and added HDR and volumetric clouds. Before installing, check the system requirements for the latest version: at least 16 GB of RAM, plus extra disk space for mods.
